Norway in a Nutshell
6 days / 5 nights
Norway in a Nutshell will take you on a journey through some of the most beautiful scenery in Fjord Norway, and includes breathtaking experiences on the Bergen Railway, the Flåm Railway, the Aurlandsfjord, the Nærøyfjord and the steep Stalheimskleiva road. You will also experience the cities Oslo and Bergen.
Day 01: Arrival in Oslo
Arrival in Oslo according to your own itinerary. The Norwegian capital is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by forested ridges. Arable fields, vast forests, and the untouched nature areas surrounding the city are only twenty minutes from the centre. They provide recreational opportunities that are frequently taken advantage of by the city’s inhabitants, as well as increasingly by visitors.
Accommodation: Scandic Oslo City
ⓘ To get from the airport to the city center or vice versa, we recommend that you use low-CO2 transport such as trains, trams, airport coaches, shuttles or private transport by electric car.
Day 02: Oslo
Breakfast in the hotel. This day is at your own leisure. Oslo offers many well-known sights such as the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, and the Munch Museum. We recommend the Oslo Panorama Sightseeing tour, a 1 ½ hour non-stop tour through the central parts of the city. Guiding is done in nine different languages through individual headphones.
Accommodation: Scandic Oslo City
Day 03: Oslo – Myrdal – Flåm (train)
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure from Oslo by train. The journey from Oslo to Myrdal is part of the Oslo – Bergen railway, classed as one of the finest train journeys in the world. This railway connects the two largest cities in Norway and shows the diversity of the Norwegian landscape. In Myrdal, you will change to the Flåm Railway. The Flåm Railway passes through wild and beautiful mountain scenery with waterfalls and steep mountainsides from a height of 900 meters and down to the Sognefjord. There is no other adhesion railway in the world running on normal tracks that is so steep over a long distance.
Accommodation: Fretheim Hotel
Day 04: Flåm – Sognefjord – Bergen (train / boat / bus)
Breakfast at the hotel. From Flåm you continue by boat on the Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen. The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord channel in Europe and has recently been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. From Gudvangen the journey continues by bus through Nærøyfjord Valley and up the Stalheimskleiva, with its 13 steep hairpin bends (Stalheimskleiva is only open during the summer). The last part of the excursion will be by train from Voss to Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords.
Accommodation: Grand Hotel Terminus
Day 05: Bergen
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is on your own leisure. Bergen is, with good reason, called the Gateway to the Fjords. The city is located on the west coast of Norway with close proximity to the famous Norwegian fjords. Sights of interest are the Hanseatic Bryggen Harbour, Fløibanen Funicular, Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum).
Accommodation: Grand Hotel Terminus
Day 06: Departure from Bergen
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure from Bergen according to your own itinerary.
