Colorful Tromsø

Discover the city of Tromsø, capital of the Arctic and Norway’s 8th largest city. This is the northenmost student city in the world, and it is often referred to as the “Paris of the North”. Tromsø is a strategic location for observing the Northern Lights. Go in search of the lights, on an whale-watching safari, and enjoy a dog-sledding tour.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø Arrival in Tromsø airport (flight not included). Meeting with your tour guide (English or language dependant on the client), who will be with you throughout the journey. Transfer by coach to your hotel in the city centre. Lunch on your own (not included)
Dinner and accommodation in a city centre hotel.
  • Day 2: Dog sledding – Aurora hunting Scandinavian breakfast.
Departure with a non-private coach to Villmarkssenter, for a dog-sledding excursion. Upon arrival, you will be given “extreme cold” equipment. Meet the huskies before setting off on sledge to discover the beautiful surroundings. You will be in teams of two per sled and will have the opportunity to alternate between driving and sitting during the approximately 1-hour excursion. After the excursion, you will go to the “lavvo” for a traditionnal hot meal, followed by cake and coffee/tea. Return to Tromsø in the early afternoon.
Afternoon free to enjoy the city in a more personal way. You can take time for an early dinner (dinner not included), before the Northern Lights excursion.
Meet at 6.30pm for a private excursion with an English-speaking guide, by coach. You’ll set off in search of the best place to admire the Northern Lights. Once you’ve found the spot, you’ll explore the area. Your guide will be there to give you tips on how to get the best possible shots with your own camera.
Accommodation in a city centre hotel.
  • Day 3: Electric catamaran exploration Scandinavian breakfast. Depart onboard a silent hybrid catamaran to try and see orcas and humpback whales. Take advantage of the boat’s silence to observe cetaceans and other marine animals, or even white-tailed eagles, Europe’s largest bird of prey, and porpoises. A professional guide will explain Arctic marine life to you during the trip. The boat offers pastries and coffee in a panoramic lounge, allowing you to enjoy the snow-covered landscapes of the Northern Alps and the small fishing villages along the coast. Lunch on your own (not included)
Dinner and accommodation in a city-centre hotel.

Note: we cannot guarantee to see whales and the programme may be altered for weather reasons. The orca and whale migration is short. Generally from the end of January, the excursion focuses on the flora and fauna of the fjord and the Lyngen region, and is shorter (11am-3.30pm).
  • Day 4: Meet the Sami Scandinavian breakfast. Departure at 10 a.m. by non-private coach towards the Sami camp. Enjoy a 10-15 minute sleigh ride as the reindeer guide you around the valley.
